If you are sending something as a personal parcel — a gift

need:
1. Government photo ID — Aadhaar card or PAN card (a
copy is fine)
2. Proforma Invoice — A simple list describing what is
inside the parcel, the quantity, and the approximate value in Indian rupees.
This does not need to be a formal invoice. A handwritten or typed sheet works.
3. Recipient details — Full name, complete delivery
address with postal/ZIP code, and a working phone number of the person
receiving the parcel.
That is typically all you need for personal shipments.
For commercial shipments (business goods, products,
samples)
If you are sending commercial goods — product samples,
handicrafts for sale, business documents, or merchandise — you will need a few
extra documents:
1. Commercial Invoice — This must mention the product
description, quantity, unit price, total value, and the purpose of export.
2. Packing List — A detailed list of what is inside each
box.
3. GST Registration Certificate — If your business is
GST registered.
4. IEC Code — Import Export Code, issued by the
Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). This is mandatory for commercial
exports from India.
5. AD Code — Your bank's Authorised Dealer Code, needed
for customs purposes.
What about prohibited items?
Certain items cannot be sent internationally regardless of
documentation. These include currency, standalone lithium batteries, flammable
materials, live plants, and perishable food without proper packaging. Always
